You’d be amazed at how many different styles of embroidery there are in India. Each region has its own distinctive style and character and I aim to give an overview of these using examples from Usha Shrikant’s comprehensive guide to Ethnic Embroidery of India, with handouts to take home for reference.
At a half day workshop, as well as gaining an insight into this rich variety of different kinds of stitches, you will be able to learn the basics of one or two styles and start a project to continue with at home.

At a full day workshop you will have the chance to learn a variety of stitches, worked on different fabrics, which you can then put together as a sampler to use as a reference tool for future projects. Here’s a lovely example of a sampler made by one of my regular workshop participants, Gina. She started the sampler at a full-day workshop and completed it at home after practising some of the stitches more than once.
