I am interested in embroidery styles and stitches from around the world and I try to reflect that in my workshops and classes. I love traditional English crewelwork, but I also love Japanese Sashiko and Boro, eastern European folk embroidery, chickenscratch on checked fabric, Indian embroidery of all sorts, applique and reverse applique, blackwork/whitework/redwork … the list goes on!
I host full day workshops and evening stitching classes in my colourful south London studio, where class size is limited to a mazimum of 6 so that everyone gets enough attention.
Full days start off with coffee or tea and tuition in a range of stitches – basic outline and filling stitches for beginners, or more complex stitches for improvers. I provide a light lunch so that you don’t have to think about bringing food, then in the afternoon we start work on a printed design which gives you the chance to practise the stitches learnt in the morning. You can then take your piece home to finish it and make it into a small cushion, a drawstring bag or frame it and hang it on your wall.
Full day classes run from 10.30-16.00 and cost £55.00 per person, including lunch and embroidery threads. You can bring your own linen fabric for stitching, or buy some from me at a cost of £2 a piece. My workshop is based in Streatham Hill, south London which is served by many forms of transport. There is free parking in the surrounding streets.
